I like to do internet research, take notes, then see what the locals recommend once I've arrived to wherever I'm heading. I'm pretty sure the last time I traveled with a guidebook was with my hardcopy of Lonely Planet's Andalusia guide back in 2009.
I'm also a fan of travel photography, though I rarely break out the DSLR ever since upgrading to the fancypants new iPhone 6. (Connect conmigo on Instagram!) Lucky for me--and all of you who love travel, tech, and taking pictures--there's Trover: an international app that's part guidebook, part photography.
Similar to a travel-centric Pinterest community board combined with an essence of Instagram, you can share your own photos and travel stories while gathering info + inspiration for future travels. (Forbes actually called it “The baby of Instagram and Trip Advisor," haha.)
Define your search by:
Destination Type (beach, amusement park, etc.)
Activities (hiking, surfing...wonder if they'll add SUP yoga?!)

Places To See
Explore and follow others to collect tips, bucketlists, and must-see locations for future travels from people who've already been there/done that thanks to geo-tagged photos. You can also view how far away the destination is from your current city, or find out what's happenin' near you right now.
